THE EUROPEAN UNION REGISTER OF COMPLEMENTARY PRACTITIONERS
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The EURCP in no way intends to undermine or replace any existing registers, rather the intention is to attempt to try and bring all organisations together.
We believe that, the House of Lords Report has not proved the possibility of legislation, in all areas; but the recommendations seem to be clear.
To those ends the EURCP believes that there is a need for:
A Central Directory of Qualified Complementary Practitioners, Therapists, Schools and Educational Establishments.
The Acceptance of a Voluntary Self-Regulatory National Standards Body for Complementary Therapy, with separate groups as recommended in the House of Lords report. (Summary IV.) We believe that Self Regulation is the way forward, we do not believe in the Federal approach like the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.
If we accept the recommendations of the report we, as an association, believe we should be concentrating on the second and third group. (It is interesting to note that the report believes that those therapies listed in group two, do not purport to embrace diagnostic skills!) Each Group must contain, with the exception of the Chairperson, a committee drawn only from fully qualified Practitioners who have at least five years practical hands-on experience. The Groups should be set up through the full consultation of all Complementary Practitioners, Schools and Therapists within that Group. There is a need to ensure that the Standards are set at a level that acknowledges and does not preclude entry to those who are qualified and are of long standing and have a proven record and have been safely practising for many years.
The EURCP believe that it is wrong for any single organisation to dictate the way forward. There is a wealth of knowledge within Complementary Therapy and it is of paramount importance for Complementary Therapy that this knowledge is used.
If this is done and only if this is done, the Voluntary Self Regulatory National Standards Agency can define the entry levels of all disciplines.
Also full research needs to be undertaken into the many new forms of Complementary Therapy to define their entry level, thus ensuring that the Government, Health Service and the public can accept all aspects of Complementary Therapy as a safe controlled aid to public health. This in our opinion is the only advantage of the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council
WHY US?
We believe that there is a need for an affordable platform for Complementary Practitioners, Therapists and Schools to advertise their disciplines.
We believe that the main stumbling block towards a Centralised Register is the vast diversity and costs of the various platforms.
Many Practitioners and Therapists offer their services to the terminally ill, disabled and the less well off on a donation only basis and as such, do not always have the funds to be affiliated to or to be members of the many associations/organisations that abound.
Therefore the EURCP register will only charge what is required to cover the administration of the register.
All the people involved with the maintaining of the register will do so on a voluntary basis.
